Advices and Queries No.7 has been read
2. Present: Sheila James, Caroline Gould, Kevin Redpath, Tyna Redpath, Sandi Kirk, Mike Kellaway, Hazel Eldridge, Sally Askins, Petronella Clark, Sarah Briton, Celia Green, Bernard Crémieu-Alcan
3. Area Meeting is at Street on Saturday 12th September at 2pm.
Sheila Mosely from Quaker Asylum and Refugee Network will be speaking and therefore business will be kept to a minimum.
We appoint Kevin Redpath and Bernard Crémieu-Alcan to represent us.
We ask for a spoken report back from our representatives.
4. Resident Friend update
Premises Committee have explored various options and have concluded that, as things stand, the best course is to seek a volunteer Resident Warden or Wardens. An advertisement will be posted in the Friend and on the Wardens network stating that free accommodation will be provided. The Warden or Wardens will volunteer, in line with the Role Description already agreed in Business Meeting, to provide a welcoming Quaker presence, to look after lettings and to provide cleaning of the Meeting House and upkeep of the grounds.
It is hoped that an appointment may be made by the end of the year.
Interim arrangements including for lettings, upkeep and renovation of the cottage have been made. These are likely to cost at least £2,500.
The arrangements for booking the Meeting House remain the same.
We are very grateful to Fran Stitfall for undertaking what is a challenging task.
5. “Quaker Power” update:
Two events have occurred since the inception of the project. The host site has received a better offer and the Government has proposed a significant reduction in the feed-in tariff. It is proposed to defer the project until matters are clearer with a view to expanding it to include the Area Meeting if possible.
Information items:
Nutting Picnic: Sept 6th from 3.00pm at Hallr Wood near Charlton Mackrell. Map and directions on noticeboard.
Visit from Church Stretton Meeting October 16th 2015: This small Meeting are visiting Somerset and would like to base themselves at our Meeting House for the afternoon arriving at about 3.00pm. Petronella Clark and Bernard Crémieu-Alcan will attend.
